Keep your Bosch 4100 or replace it?

Decide what a different saw must improve before comparing models or spending on upgrades.

The short answer

Keep the saw if it still suits your work and the problem has an appropriate, economical solution. Consider replacement when the limitation is fundamental to your projects or the total cost of restoring the setup no longer makes sense.

Compare the complete cost

List the repairs and accessories you would actually need to keep the 4100 useful. Compare that total with the delivered cost of an alternative, including its stand, accessories and any changes to the shop. A succession of upgrades can become expensive, but an unnecessary replacement can be more expensive still.

Separate a genuine constraint from a feature that merely looks attractive. Write down the project that the new purchase will make possible or materially improve.

Two Bosch models to research

Bosch’s 4100XC-10 page lists a 30-inch rip capacity and SquareLock fence. The GTS15-10 page lists a 32-1/8-inch rip capacity and a rack-and-pinion fence. Those are manufacturer-listed differences to investigate, not evidence from a side-by-side cutting test.

Neither listing establishes local stock, today’s price, or compatibility with your existing accessories. A wider rip specification also does not create more room in the garage.

Choose a path you can explain

A good replacement decision can be stated plainly: the new setup addresses a recurring limitation at a cost and footprint you accept. If you cannot identify that improvement, finish diagnosing the current setup first.
